SYREME Miniature Dachshunds and Italian Greyhounds

About Syreme....

Here at Syreme we breed miniature dachshunds and Italian greyhounds for conformation showing and for lovely pet temperament, specialising in red and black & tan dachshunds and blue Italian greyhounds.

Syreme is the kennel prefix of Steve Emery (with a little support from wife Joanne) and our main priority is breeding happy, healthy dogs that conform as closely as possible to breed standards. We will NEVER sacrifice health or temperament for physical appearance and we always breed 'for the good of the breed'. All our miniature dachshunds are free from the Cord 1 mutation that is PRA, a disease that can cause blindness and is devastating for owners.  Not all miniature dachshund breeders take PRA seriously, but we do.  Check our links page for more information on PRA and its effects.

We live in rural South Australia, just north of Gawler, and all our dogs are much loved family pets as well as show dogs. We have several Australian Champions and some of the best bloodlines in Australia behind our dogs. We don’t breed often but when we do we are very careful to match dog and bitch so we get good temperament and conformation as well as good show qualities.

Miniature Dachshunds

Our Dachshund lines are proven for temperament and show quality and we have had several champions in our kennels. We have some of the best Australian lines and are producing some lovely dogs. Our dogs live in purpose-built kennels during the day but at night time they come in with us, they have their own bed and they are spoilt for a few hours each day and they love it.

We have our Dachshunds being shown in several states and doing very well. We have also been doing some earth dog trials and the dogs do enjoy the fun of the chase (check out our links page for more information).

Shows

We don’t attend many shows because of our work schedule but when we do we like to have fun, catch up with our friends and when our dogs win that’s a bonus. As an old friend once said  “it does not matter if you win or lose, you always bring the best dog home” and so many people in the show ring forget that.  Unlike some breeders, we are always happy to see dogs that we have bred beat us, as it means we're doing what breeders are supposed to do - improve the breed.

Rescue dogs

We also act as a rescue centre for Dachshunds and Italian Greyhounds and we have re homed several in the past.  If you are interested in an older dog please get in touch as we might just have the perfect companion here for you.  We would much rather see dogs in loving, caring homes than sitting in a kennel environment.

Puppies

We don’t breed often but we do breed selectively.

All our pups are born in the home and spend the first 8 weeks in the home environment or at work so they are getting constant attention. They mix with our other dogs, with our cats and with plenty of people in these first few weeks so they are fully socialised, and used to all sorts of noises. They always have a radio playing so they get used to different voices and sounds.

We always give personal back up with every pup that goes for the rest of its life, I like to stay in touch with everyone that has a pup from me and love regular updates.  If you are interested in a puppy from Syreme, please get in touch with Steve via email or phone.

Barking Mad Dog Equipment

We manufacture on a very small scale dog show equipment, this ranges from tie-down pegs to umbrella stands to show trolleys to show trailers.  If you are interested in anything then please let us know and we can discuss your needs.

Wheelchairs

We also manufacture doggy wheelchairs, these are individually made to suit your dog from lightweight aluminium to your specifications.

Please take the time to look at our pages, enjoy our dogs, and feel free to contact Steve if you would like more information on what we do.

South Australian Dachshund and Italian Greyhound Friends

If you are in South Australia and would like to meet up with other dachshund or Italian Greyhound people, we have regular meetings in dog friendly parks where our dogs can run off leash and make friends.  We have a Facebook page which details group meetings, if you'd like to join up please check us out HERE.  It's great fun for the dogs and the owners, and a great chance to meet up with other like-minded people.
